I do not remember a time when I did not make art. Disney and Looney Tunes were my childhood mentors. As a mature adult I decided that I needed the formal discipline and theory that can only be found in a university setting. While in school I became active in the New York art community, and won a long list of awards. I graduated from LIU Southampton College in December of 2001 with my Bachelor of Fine Arts.
My artwork has been favorably reviewed twice by the New York Times. A major piece was awarded publication in the 13th edition of Living Artists. I am also represented by Seaside Gallery in Nags Head, NC.
I enjoy working in a variety of media and genres. I use acrylics, pen & ink, watercolors, oils, collage, monotypes, computer art, fiber art, and sculpture to convey my message. I like the freedom to explore diverse subject matter and to use whatever media suits the subject, the season or the environment. My subjects tend to be the things that I love: pets, flowers, gardens, vintage buildings, birds, insects, wildlife, the seasons, water and sunsets.
When I paint people, I depict them as characters within a setting. It has been a lifelong habit to keep a small sketchbook handy. I make sneaky drawings of people, hoping to capture their body language, character and a special moment. Many of these have found their way into my artwork.
Both my sketchbooks and body of work contain non-objective pieces in which I explore theory. This is much like composing music without words. It is a challenge to convey an emotion or an intellectual message through color, line, texture, pattern repetition and design principles.
Now a resident of Currituck, N.C., I head up a painting group called The Wet Paint Society. I am available to give private and group acrylic painting seminars. I am also available for commissions, and would love to paint your pet, home and garden from your photo (or mine where possible). You are invited to enjoy the artworks on this website and to join the long list of people who have my work in their homes and offices.
